I downloaded Cursor last weekend having been told that it was amazing to watch AI code in front of your eyes.
I have done some coding in the past and spent a lot of my time wading through css and HTML over the last 30 years but I am no coder. I think I can read code but like language I am not a fluent speaker.
I have spent a large amount of time with developers and definitely spent time adding things to the list of developments that we need to run an e-commerce business but generally a lot of the coding doesn’t get done.
Priorities usually take over, so I sat down and asked Cursor to create an example project for me. One of the things I always wanted was the ability to track weight and meals (I know there are a bunch of apps available now) but I thought it would be a good project to start with.
So within 15 minutes I ended up with a pretty good tracker. I used simple prompts and here is the readme from the project file
A comprehensive web-based nutrition tracking application with PostgreSQL database backend, designed specifically for elderly users with a focus on nutrition and exercise tips.
Features
- User Authentication: Secure login with email/password or email verification codes
- Nutrition Tracking: Log daily food intake with detailed nutrition information
- Hydration Tracking: Monitor daily water and liquid consumption
- Recipe Browser: Browse Parsley Box meals with nutrition information
- Progress Tracking: View nutrition progress and trends
- UK Food Database: Comprehensive database of common UK foods
- Daily Tips: Rotating nutrition and exercise tips from dieticians
- Profile Management: User profiles with nutrition goal calculations
- Responsive Design: Works on desktop and mobile devices
I spent around 15 minutes asking how to push this to the web and within 45 minutes had the project published on Github and running on the web with Railway.
Give it a go and see where you get to – even rapid prototyping is a good tool using AI. I came off the project and bought more AI stocks 🙂
