I have been staying in various hotels in Edinburgh over the last few months and thought I would write about a new hotel that has recently opened. It used to be one of the offices of the HMRC in Edinburgh.

The Resident is handily located at the west end of Edinburgh and is a converted office block (a very ugly office block at that). It is unusual for a hotel as it has no kitchen facilities or restaurant so doesn’t serve dinner or breakfast, I did find that quite strange for a new build hotel.

The service was excellent and there is a 5-6pm residents drinks service in the reception area of the hotel which is a nice touch.

The rooms are fairly standard if now a little small for a new hotel, with a small “kitchenette” featuring a microwave, fridge, Nespresso Machine and some crockery. They could do with adding some kitchen cleaning equipment (dish towel, washing up liquid etc).

The best feature was the staff who were welcoming and although it says on the website they don’t accept dogs they are trialing this (£30 supplement which I think is a little steep). Hopefully they will keep access to pets as its certainly important to me while travelling
